How much does an EMF assessment cost?

Prices vary but it is important when making a decision to make sure you are not comparing apples to oranges. Someone offering “EMF inspection for only $199!” is not going to have any training and probably only one or two meters. And someone offering a free “assessment” is often doing a bait and switch: a covert sales pitch designed to talk you into buying some EMF “home harmonizers” or pendants or phone stickers (which don’t change the readings on any meters) or other EMF products that can actually cause harmful side effects. Unfortunately there isn’t any license required to do EMF testing like there is for radon, asbestos or lead, so literally anyone can put up a website overnight.

At the other end of the spectrum, some consultants with slick marketing campaigns are charging $2500/day for local clients or $10,000 for out of state clients. Other are charging $1500 for a 3 hour inspection where the same advice is given to every client. Marketing is expensive so the cost is just passed on to the client and they are paying for marketing instead of personalized service.

Generally most highly skilled EMF consultants’ prices tend to fall in the middle of the two extremes and they tend to bill hourly instead of offering the same price to everyone as they know that different homes will take more or less time to assess. And even hourly rates can’t be compared one to one as some consultants work much faster than others. Some experienced consultants get much faster over time (I can accomplish more now in 2 hours than I did in an entire day 7 or 8 years ago) but some do not, so length of time in business isn’t always an indicator of speed/knowledge. Some will charge a seemingly lower rate or include a “free” return visit because they are planning to make thousands on product commissions at the appointment. High quality products have a much lower profit margin and consultants have the choice to recommend items that will pay $8 or $800. As a whole, prices for EMF consulting tend to be less than for mold testing and remediation but higher than for house cleaners, personal organizers and reiki, often falling in line with hourly prices for electricians and other skilled tradespeople.
